Webcams on Gardeners17 Sep '07 2:36 pm
I love checking the waterholes for animals - now I'm doing it every day, saw a herd of at least twenty - impala? a couple of days ago, called out to show my friend, then whoosh! refresh! They had all gone. Blast! Well, I saw them!
Now, live web-cams in a garden could be the most dreary things. Imagine the suspense for webcam watchers... the gardener is weeding - the gardener has gone to get a cup of tea - the weeds are growing - the gardener returns - the gardener is weeding again.... |

Look at it this way Moosey. If you have a few of those security system cameras fitted which only record when there is movement in the field, you will have a home video to beat all home videos of the Head Gardener at work, no matter how much time you take out to sing in choirs, cycle around blocks, swim across pools or natter on mooseyscountrygarden. Now imagine selling the concept of a little bit of help to the NGP when you've got all that evidence... |

the best time to see animals at the watering hole is either first thing in the morning or just at dusk. Just figure out when that is and you can't miss. I saw some lovely Ibex and a herd of Zebra with a cute little baby, so timid to drink, but got pushed to the water by it's mom. At sunset they turn to black and white and turn on the night vision, so if you only see it in black and white, it's night time.
Love the volcano cam, Dixie!

This is so addictive, I can't believe it! I'm hardly getting any work done today! hee hee
Anyway, so far I've seen a flock of what I think were crested guineafowl (I looked it up, my knowledge of African wildlife isn't that good!), a couple of giraffes, a zebra, a herd of wildebeest and an impala (I think!) and it's v exciting! It's amazing the variety of life there. I'm going to keep looking back. |

I can't believe this thread, and how my idle comment has grown. Friends recently saw elephant as well.
I'm seriously impressed, Bambi! Our local "Bambi" is indeed Impala, the most plentiful larger mammel by far in the park! |

Wow!19 Sep '07 1:30 pm
I, like Dixie, will have to get times figured out. It's 6:30 p.m. as I sit here on the west coast of N.A., and the pond in the picture is deep in night-tike darkness, with moths flying about!. I looked at both of the sites; they're cool!!
About a week ago I found a sort of "master site for streaming webcams, but many of them were out of order. Here's the link: http://www.123cam.com/
At that time It was late at night here but it was afternoon rush hour in Wellington, N.Z. (I was watching the bridge traffic).
I could spend my entire day with these things!!

Just seen a kudu bull with his horns magnificently reflected in the water. Tried to save but - aagh - too late. If only one could 'go back three paces'! |
