Mourning... The Greek Tragedy...28 Aug '07 1:21 am
I do not wish to make your heart heavy like mine, mourning for that Grace Land, like I do...But, I feel SO desperate!! I have this feeling , that this is just a bad dream....But every new morning , I realize it is a real lasting , horror...I have all my life cherised this Grace Land... But I have been SO badly hurt by the unproper, irresponsible way, this Gentle Land is treated!! That is why, I feel SO happy and secure in Belgium...It is like having constantly my head hidden deeply into the ground ---- I do not wish to hear, to see, to know, to listen any more...
And now, I have NO choice!! I am forced to see, to hear, to feel again!!
You would say, " but do you know how many children and innocent are burnt alive every day in Iraq???" "How many horrors are taking place all over the world right now???" I know, I know!! But, look! This is my ....flesh and blood!! And even more , this is the Blessed Land , where the whole European Civilization was born!!! I am not talking of modern Greece ONLY now; I am talking of ALL of us!!
You can watch/listen a very interesting/tragic video here, about the Greek catastrophy : This is the BBC Home, World/Europe page. Just press, "watch":

Greek Tragedy28 Aug '07 2:47 am
Dear Liza, I just wanted you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and with all of Greece today. I have seen coverage of the devastating fires. I know that this must be even more saddening for you since you were just there for your wonderful visit to your homeland. All the beauties are still very fresh in your mind and the thought of the devastation even more poignant as a result.
The loss of life is so tragic for those left behind. I say this because we both know that those who lost their lives are now in a place of beauty and ecstacy far removed from the pain of the living. I hope that any family and friends you have in Greece are safe. |

Thoughts of Greece28 Aug '07 7:25 am
We too have been watching with horror the scenes of terrible destruction. We identify with this land as it is the cradle of our civilisation as we moved across Europe from the Caucasians to France,England, then some of us to the South Pacific.Much of our language is Greek in origin. It is unbearable to think that someone deliberately lit the fires that have caused this loss of lives and the historical significance of the land.

Exhausted out of sadness....28 Aug '07 10:03 am
This early afternoon, I tried to work in my front gardens, where I have not worked since mid July, before going to Corfu...The weeds there are covering many of the plants...But I was feeling cold and powerless...And when I started weeding, silent tears started falling down my eyes, on my gardening gloves...I changed clothes and slept from 4.30'pm, until 9.30' pm. Fortunatelly, little Nicholas is very independent and well behaving...
What is mostly devastating here, is to know, that some perverted Greeks (?) burn their own country!! And this is a very old story. But the Greek State, instead of being properly organized against probable fire-destruction, "catching the bull from the horns", preferred to organize (and spend millions on) ...some fancy Olympic Games ; when , some of the basic needs of this country, have always been many more trained professionals and special anti-fire vehicles and air-crafts : to guard and watch over our few precious forests and the villages built in them....
Our picturesque , deprived of greenery, Aegean Sea Islands , were not always like that ; they were covered by forests , where animals like tigers and lions used to live.. They are described as such in ancient texts and ancient wall paintings...
Thank you, my tender and wise Faith!! Thank you, my good friend, Dixie!! |

Liza I am so sorry about the fires.28 Aug '07 4:20 pm
I heard again in the news today about the fire. I don't understand why the fires are being set, assuming they are. No one seems to be claiming credit or giving a reason. I understand there is a lack of capacity to deal with so much fire at once but why would anyone exploit that? It doesn't make any sense. It is hard to see how anyone in Greece could profit from this nor why anyone outside of Greece would take whatever unhappiness they may have out on innocent people and the land itself. Horrible. |

They do not make sense....28 Aug '07 9:24 pm
Yes , dear Mark, you are so right!! Living in Greece , you might be driven crazy either about the Beauty , the living Ancient History, the hospitality, and other lovely things, or by the million ugly things , that do not make sense....In this wider , non-making-sense perspective, I do believe there exist some perverted ones that cause the fires, apart from the unbearable heat, apart from the summer winds....
