The day after the big Garden/Studio Party21 May '07 11:25 am
The big day came and went. We got perfect sunny and pleasant weather. We saw about 50 friends and family. Today we walked the dogs and I thought I would take some pictures of the garden while it was still fairly spruced up and on its best behavior.
Well that's weird. Lots of photos read as being under 500 kilobytes from my i-Photo files but then read too big when I try to select them from here. Oh well, I'll post these and then go back and see if I can pare the others down to size.

Love the paths - I want to glide down them gracefully. And up them. Along them? You know what I mean!

Yes I do, Moosey22 May '07 8:02 am
but mostly it's along them because my garden is almost completely flat -so gliding will work. If you follow the path the whole way you'll find Emerald City and the great Oz!

Mark, your taking us around your garden was a lovely experience! I loved most of all that beautiful Arc with the three colourful climbers! Are they Roses? The strong light reminds me of the Mediterranean strong and ....hot light --right now in Athens is 32C!! And it is still May...But everything looks healthy, good-looking, and cheerful in your garden! I am sure, that your party friends really enjoyed being there!

A lovely place23 May '07 8:49 am
Moosey expressed it so well ~ inviting paths that one floats along!
I think the colour combination in pic 66 is unusual and very beautiful - what are the names of the roses? And pic 40 -is it a passionfruit vine?

Hi Mark. So glad your garden party was a success. The pictures are lovely, so I know everyone was totally impressed. I'm still facing the looming deadline for my open garden, so I have not had a lot of time for the Forum lately. Glad I caught up with your post, however. Now you can breathe a sigh of relief and just enjoy the fruits of your labor. Can't wait to join you.

So nice to see you all again.23 May '07 3:30 pm
Group hug! How is everyone? Jack and Faith were right about my being a bit distracted lately getting ready for the party, and whewwww. It does feel good to be on this side of it.
Lets see. I think the climbers you wanted to know about Liza are the ones in #66 that Dixie also mentioned. There are two roses here, Graham Thomas is the yellow one on the left and Sally Holmes is on the right. He is past peak and drops tons of petals every day. Even at his best he cannot manage to balance out Sally. Add to that her companion, a variegated pelargonium with salmon colored flowers and it is safe to say the two sides of this arch will never be balanced. Well, you can't have everything. Graham also has a companion, a delicate blue flowered relative to the black-eyed susan vine. However, that vine takes a while to wake up and never quite makes it to the top of the arch.
Dixie, that is a passion vine growing with my only clematis over the gate into the garden. It's called P. caerulea or "Blue Crown Passion Flower". I have another on the corner deck in bloom now that is similar with a purple flower. There is a smaller white and blue one called P. alata growing on the upstairs deck. Then there is a very unusual and rampant one (whose name escapes me) growing through my fig tree as well as a little yellow one called P. citrina I think. Would you like pictures of them? I think all are in flower now as they should be. An old name for them is "May Pop" since that is usually when they bloom like mad.
I'm sorry about not labeling the pictures. Something came up and I had to leave so I just went ahead and posted the photos anyhow.
One disappointment was that neither the Dracula lilly nor my epis were in bloom for the party. Also my Kiftsgate rose on the front hedge was only blooming on the yard side of the front hedge, spoiling the welcome. I just got home to find the Dracula lilly open as well as the first epis. I'll post these and get some of the Kiftsgate rose posted soon.
