Hi everyone I was browsing all your garden pictures from this sping and just wanted to give you a quick update on the woodland garden. Spring started a little slow this spring as we had some very cold days just as buds were swelling and things were about to pop. The bleeding heart just collapsed right to the ground but amazingly 4 weeks latter and it has come back beautifully.

It was totally down to the ground it is amazing!

The beds are finally starting to fill in and the ferns are looking great

The really big thing that I don't know if I am looking forwards to is the emergence of the 17 year cicada brood which is predicited to occur next weekend. Illinois is suppose to have the biggest brood of all the periodical ciadas. We did not own the woodland garden 17 years ago but I remember taking snow shovels to clean them off the sidewalks at some of my clients houses. There can be as many as 18 to 24 cicadas per square yard which I have never done the math but belive me it is a lot. Oh and for the curious here is what the little buggers look like.

I will bring the camera out to the woodland garden next weekend and see what interesting sites I will find. By the way if I remember correctly the sound of them is almost deafening . Well I am going to end this and go peruse some more of your gardens.

A lovely glimpse of your woodland garden,GB. There is something special about ferns like no other plant. I was excited to check my fairy garden yesterday and find one of the ferns -I think it is called'Hen and Chickens'-has tiny ferns growing from the ends of the fronds,so I will carefully put them in pots to grow on.I want to make a woodland garden too.I must go back and see what you have for paths.

Nice to hear from you again. Your ferns are real nice. I only have one little fern as a house plant right now, but I am planning a grotto garden. A place with a pond and waterfall and shade loving plants on the north side of the house. A cool place on hot summer days.

I like big bugs and that's a biggie all right! Quite the strange looking thing. Just the sort of bug to give my Deb the heebee-geebees.

Yes please, post more pix! How dose that parking lot garden look now?

Hi GG - I have visited a gorgeous garden recently who had a grotto in a corner.I have a photo and am going to write about it next week in garden visits .It may help with your ideas.

Glenn, I'm lookng forward to even more greenery and fernery and vegetation! It's such a magical time of the year - spring - you look away and there's more green to see... Beautiful.

I don't like to ask about the cicadas. They are the noisy insects, aren't they?
