Links & spring cleaning virtual gardens9 Apr '07 10:26 pm
Hello everybody... a few minor easter updates to the main site and forums before disappear into my garden for a glorious sunny holiday afternoon.
LINKS :
I'm playing around with adding LINKS to pages on the main site - specifically, increasing the amount of links between moosey pages. When I read something about say.. Judith, I want the name Judith to link to the judith page so that if I want to I can follow the thread and find out about judith. I've put the long description of the page in the mouseover text so you can find out a little bit more without having to leave the page.
Now.... the system that finds text and makes the links is still a work in progress. Moosey and I will be tuning the links over the next week so let us know what you think.
Are there too many links now? especially with the silly dark blue double underlined ads? Too distracting?
There are 2000+ pages on the main site and it's taken a day to get the links working. Comments please!
SPRING CLEANING A VIRTUAL GARDEN :
Moosey and I have also been doing some last minute Northern hemisphere spring cleaning on the main site and forums so if you see anything out of place let us know.
ADS :
I added those hideous blue popup links to the forums for non-logged-in users. LOGIN and they will go away like the other ads. |

I, for one, really like the idea of more links, as I keep discovering pictures or posts from folks with whom I tend to correspond a lot, but which aren't on the pages that I normally look. So the extra links would make it easier to avoid missing these, if I understand correctly. I can understand that it must ne a lot of work to establish them all, though!
Keep up the great work!!
Cheers!

Silly blue double underlinings...11 Apr '07 3:14 pm
Eggy they are odd - but they do go away if one logs in! If they help secure your excellent site for the future I say again: advertising rules! Besides all the time you put into it, it can't cost you nothing to provide this wonderful space for us all to meet in. And the silly blues are a small price for us to pay.
A bit like national TV the ads are sometimes the best. (Oops. Well most amusing anyway.) I can't help but click on some to see what on earth the link is. Was the key word 'hair' that I came across yesterday??? It reminds me of the famous advertising dictum from, I think, no less than the head of Coca-Cola's advertising campaigns back in the 50s/60s: "I know that half my advertising works. I don't know which half."
And the extra links sound like a great development.
BTW - is there such a thing as a 'best forum page' competition in the IT world? Does one have to get nominated? Would you want to be nominated? Let us know! |

Coke advertising11 Apr '07 8:11 pm
When Coca cola started their advertising campaign in China ,they first rendered it as Ke-kou-ke-la.Unfortunately the Coke company did not discover until after thousands of signs had been printed ,that the phrase meant 'bite the wax tadpole'or'female horse stuffed with wax' ,depending on the dialect. Pepsi didn't have much luck with their attempt in Taiwan either - Their translation of 'Come alive with the Pepsi generation 'came out as 'Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead '

Oh Dixie, you gave me my morning's best chuckle. As for the links, I think it's a great idea, but I do worry about how much work it will add for you Eggy. Are you sure you want to tackle this? We do appreciate all your hard work to keep this site running so efficiently. |

good morning and thanks for all your kind comments.
The eggylinks system is up and running on the main site now (not the forums). You should see lots more single underlined links between pages. Moosey has a long list and a special word database to go thru to add more of them so you'll see even more in the next few weeks.
I'm really pleased with the way they've turned out - the links make it much easier to follow mad mother Moosey's train of thought...
Now, I would love to stay and chat but its 10:53am, 24 degrees, nothing but blue sky outside and I've got some thirsty lavender to water and a good book to read |

Mad Mother Moosey???????????17 Apr '07 2:18 pm
I'm not sure about being called 'Mad Mother Moosey' in a public place! It makes me sound like something out of a Grimm fairytale. As a serious gardener and lifestyler who is at this very moment creating Henworld - a themed playground for the poultry - I'm not sure what to say! Pook pook?
I reckon this is Eggy's way of getting me back for throwing a block of cheese at him when he was an annoying toddler. Oops. I did, and I still feel guilty! Oh the shame! |

"Mad Mother Moosey"17 Apr '07 6:00 pm
Well, Mary, if I were you, I'd get a shirt printed up with "Mad Mother Moosey" splashed across the front of it! I think that's a real term of endearment on the part of Eggy of which you should be really proud!! Somehow, to me, it sounds very English or, oddly, New Zealander and reflects the sense of humour in those two countries. I think that's the sort of thing that helps to create an identy different from the homogonized "world society" that we all seem to be being drawn into (which, admittedly, has its good aspects).
I'll now always think of you in those endearing terms as I work in my garden which is, once again, a mess of broken sticks and debris from the awful storms we have once again been experiencing here. As I've been working for 4 days straight away from home, I'll finally get to pick up things tomorrow and really check on what new buds have appeared in the last 4 days.
By the way, the trilliums are now in full bloom here, and I found several double ones in the bush today. I'll take a couple of pictures tomorrow as it was too late when I walked Joey tonight. That is, unless it storms again!
Cheers!

"Mad Mother Moosey"18 Apr '07 3:30 pm
I think it has charm. I was already bemused and intrigued by the nick name "Moosey" when I first found this wonderful site. I liked the in-your-face, expectation-defying, I'm-quite-comfortable-with-myself-thank-you freshness of it. I like women who can laugh at the roles they're expected to play. (I very much doubt that Martha Stewart would ever embrace her inner moose.) "Mad Mother" adds a whole other layer to it. With the three M's and goosey-moosey connection I guess it was inevitable really.
Last week at school a little jewish girl asked if I were Santa Claus. (I've really got to get back to the gym.) Of course she did it with humerous intent and I was complimented that she would reach out to me in this odd way. However, I had to let her know she still wasn't getting any presents next December. I think you should count yourself lucky to have given birth to a child with the wit to give you such a satisfying nick name. I should be so lucky. |

Thanks Eggy for giving me such a great opportunity. I think a sign reading "Mad Mother Moosey" would certainly attract attention in a crowded airport. |
