Ever so lovely piccies dear sir, and a lovely photo of yourself and family via the other link thingy.
We don't have enough trees planted with decent autumn foliage as of yet. Something I hope to rectify soonest, as aumtumn colours are among my favourite things to see in the garden.

Singing in the rain23 Apr '07 3:42 am
Unexpected thunder in the distance as we started our walk... here is a blow by blow account. Now, nearly an hour later and with a power failure from the weather, it is still raining gently... BLISS.

Having a dog who keeps the Moosey airspace completely clear of marauding aeroplanes I can just see Doubly herding thunder! Very very lovely, Jack. Isn't autumn magical?

I just can't get over the colours!
Do you place your trees with the 'big picture' in mind, or are their placements just happy accidents?
Whichever it is, it works!

The first Morn of the Golden Light24 Apr '07 6:04 am
Last year I was amazed at how, had this been a theatre, the lighting designer would have received scores of awards. Somehow the autumn sunrise strikes everything at exactly the right angle. This year I hadn't noticed it (yet).
Until this morning, after last night's rain, when the dawn was golden and pure and filled with goodness.
This afternoon there was more glorios rain - what a funny season this has been!
Anna - I did plan very carefully when I planted. And my gutfeel worked overtime, and trees were moved a meter this way before digging, or combined that way, and I pictured all sorts of balances and compositions and contrasts... but truth be told I can't claim a single deliberate effect in the whole huge garden. I look at it all with more wonder than anyone else and ask 'How did I manage? How did I know?'

Three calendar-worthy pictures25 Apr '07 2:47 am
I hadn't seen the view in the first photo before but love the layering. The water is such an asset for reflecting back to give you two of everything as well as the brightness of the sky. The view of the bridge is probably different everytime we see it but fall is especially good to it. The view in the third picture is new to me too. Having a rather flat garden myself I always notice the drama that a change in elevation provides.

Whoa! I hadn't seen the ones from yesterday!25 Apr '07 2:54 am
Wonderful! I really get a feel for being there. How lucky you are, Jack, and how fortuitous your plant choices and placements. I don't know about you but I always get the feeling the garden knows what it wants to be and we are more like midwives than painters.
