Magpies are very careless with their nests .They just throw a few twigs together in a fork of a tree ,so it was no suprise to find a nest had blown to the ground in a recent storm .There was a young bird in it ,with the parents anxiously flapping around .Smiley loves birds ,and carefully carried the young bird to a sheltered place ,and hoped the parents would still accept it .Well they continued to bring food to it .Smiley named it 'Wilbur' -(apologies to anyone with that name ) .During the days that followed Wilbur grew stronger and was soon moving around our garden ,eventually the family moved away ,with Wilbur able to fly .They generally stay in their family grouping till the young have grown to adulthood.
