Hi Gordon,27 Nov '07 3:11 pm
Long time no hear from. I've been pretty removed from the internet lately but I wanted to say hello. You are definitely in Winter now whatever the calendar may have to say about it. The snow is very beautiful in your garden. It has been colder than usual lately here as well, down into the thirties F at night. When I saw your photos of your garden under snow I thought of a friend in Iceland who has a beautiful little garden and recently posted photos of ice formations on her flickr site. Below is a connector to one of these. A few photos to either side in her stream of photos is one of her garden under snow and ice looking very beautiful as yours does. I think you will enjoy these ice photos.

Thanks for the address, Mark! I really enjoyed the pictures there, especially those of the little garden under its blanket of snow and the ones of the frozen ponds and rivers. Now I have to get back to my internet research on off-grid power and heating systems. That is what I have been spending a lot of time with of late. I am becoming more and more "fixated" with the proposed move to the eco-village, but we will see how it all works out. Ideas DO change over time, as we all know!
Cheers!

The pictures are amazing,Gordon-I enlarged them to see the snowflakes,as it is hard to imagine...(We don't have snow here).
A beautiful summers day-I drove out to visit a friend and everywhere is so beautiful with rambling roses sprawling all over the hedges. So enjoy all the news of down-under,Gordon,and winter won't be too long.In the meantime, your photos are very interesting.
Dixie.

Oooh, Gordon. I love your snowy garden. It has been several years since we have had a snowfall here, so it is nice to see that it does still exist elsewhere. Good luck with your research and be sure to keep us posted about all you learn.

Dreaming of a New Garden (Here I Go Again!!)28 Nov '07 6:03 pm
Hi, all! Well, the sun was back out today but the snow stayed around, and there is more of the white stuff forecast for tomorrow. With luck, it'll all be gone in a week or so here. But I've been checking daily on the weather up in the valley where I'm thinking of moving to, and it's been consistently -10 to -13 degrees C. for the last few days there. Of course, the valley is around 2800 feet above sea level, and I'm at about 30 feet! The school there records the weather each day and uploads it to the internet, so it's easy to check and to follow. One thing that I'm interested in is the wind speed, since I might want to install a wind generator if I move there, so I need to know what the winds are like at least through the winter.
My mind is already working overtime on the type of garden I might be able to have up there. A bunch of new seed catalogues arrived in the mail today. One of them is from a company called Rocky Mountain Rare Plants. I have bought seeds from them before with good results, and I think that their seeds should do quite well in the interior, since it's dry, sunny, and cold in winter, just like in Colorado, where the company is located. You can bet I'll be perusing that catalogue closely!! I think I really am in need of a new adventure in life to keep me from becoming stale !
Thanks so much for the kind words, Mark, Dixie and Faith! Your gardens will keep me inspired through the winter, so sniff the roses and pat the euphorbias for me, too!
Cheers!

Another Storm!!3 Dec '07 3:32 pm
Hi again, everyone!
Well, little Campbell River made it to the national newscasts today, as we were the epicentre of a very intense winter storm and received the most snow on the west coast! Two other brutal storms hit the country at the same time (very unusual), one in central Canada and another on the east coast!
I aimed my camera out of the back door this evening and took some pictures to show you all. Here they are:
Cheers!

Wow Gordon... I have hardly ever seen snow falling and waking up to snow only happened to me twice in my life, when I was 6 and 7 years old. I remember almost nothing of the rather thin snow - we had to scrape it together just to get a fistful. How I'd love to see it again...
I am at school, my reports completed, neatening up the content of my computer. (Well no, actually I'm on the Moosey forums...) I do believe that I'm just about on holiday, with one last meeting tomorrow morning.
HHOORRAAYY!!
