Down the garden path21 Mar '07 2:36 am
Dear Dixie, I love your green grass path between the beautiful beds. I too have a Sharifa Asma who struggles a little in my climate, but also produces wonderful scented blossoms. I can't wait to see what you have planned for the newly cleared area at the end of your path.

Update20 Apr '07 1:03 pm
The shrubs that I planted last September - (in a previous photo ) have grown well .Last week I put newspaper down a la Moosey ,and covered it with a thick layer of sawdust .I am pleased that it looks tidy after spraying the oxalis in this garden .

This lovely white hebe beside the bottlebrush was bought cheaply as three twigs looking fairly dead-ish .

new garden20 Apr '07 1:13 pm
This is taken from the Fairy garden looking up at where I am going to make a new garden ,(as in the previous photos of this thread ).I planted four fuschias along the wall ,wanting them to hang down lushly ,but they have not done well at all ,so I will dig out the soil and replace it this winter I think ,and try again .The path from the top garden will go along here somehow ,and I might make some steps to come down into the fairy garden - still thinking .

It will be interesting to watch that hillside border develope, Dixie. It looks very nice now, but all those plants look like they have even more size to come and will become even more of a presence. My sense is you've spaced them out very well so that you won't have to cut things back drastically all the time in a few years. It will be fun to see over timehow your decisions work out and for me if my guess about them is right. Normally we only get to do this sort of learning within our own gardens. How much more we can learn through this kind of sharing! I've often read your posts encouraging new gardeners to take before and after pictures. Not only is the contrast better appreciated but we can all learn from that. I wish I had more before pictures than I do. Most of the ones I do have are from before digital cameras were available (at least to me), but I will try to scan some to share too.

Isn't it amazing what a few pix can say? Yours capture the heart of gardening dixie, they have everything that is so incredibly fantastic about nature... animals, adorable children, natural design, blue sky, open fields, beautiful plants, a ready spade and an awesome man on a tractor! hehe
I just love watching you create your piece of paradise
