Back Garden11 Mar '07 1:29 am
Wow Dixie, I love your back garden. It is so romantic and lush looking. The long views over open farmland add to the dreamy effect. I am sorry that the farmer sees fit to spray herbicides. That is so tragic when the spray drifts to a lovely garden like yours. Keep us posted on further changes as they occur.

Back garden11 Mar '07 11:24 am
The back area has been a struggle since we came here ,with the oxalis and other really bad weeds .I gave up trying to grow flowers ,and decided to clear the area and plant it in shrubs and spray (very reluctantly) between the shrubs.
The first picture is of the half-circular garden out from our back door ,as I was clearing it -I planted the golden wave flax and carex grasses and dwarf agapanthus ,and in the photo have other shrubs purchased and grown from cuttings ready to place. The calistemon (bottle brush ) at the back had fallen over years ago ,and we had an argument -I wanted to cut it out ,tidy the area and plant a new one .We compromised and I bought Smiley a new one which we planted .The old one is actually growing new shoots from the stump ,so I am pleased to encourage it .

area re planted.11 Mar '07 11:31 am
Here is the garden cleared and ready to be re planted last September - I dug a big hole for each plant and put new soil in each hole before planting ,so that the oxalis would not get close to the roots .
It is all growing so well ,and I will probably have a good photo next spring .The plants are hebes ,flaxes ,nandina ,pieris ,coprosma and lonicera nitida (which is such a useful foliage plant )

Dixie, I love photos like this, where there's sort of nothing, but things are laid our ready to go! I can share your excitement. And how small and silly the plants look! hee hee.

Absolutely wonderful garden development!13 Mar '07 4:33 am
Wow, Dixie! You've made such remarkable progress! I'm truly impressed! Flowering shrubs, greens, fruit trees, vegetable garden, etc. etc....what a wholesome garden paradise you have! And as Liza said, the ever presence of blue....it's amazing! I love it there! Thanks for sharing all those before/after pics and giving us a lovely tour of your achievements.

What a nice view to come back to!19 Mar '07 10:18 am
This is my first time back to Moosey's in a while, being so busy at school. I'm enjoying the tour!
My favorite shot is the one you took of the "Eastern side of the house". It has a very dreamy, romantic look. The tree gives the whole scene a sense of age and the lush lawn draws you into the picture. I also like the birdbath.
A close second goes to the one called "Marion's garden 007". I love all the blue from the hydrangeas and the flowers in the foreground. It's also nice to glimpse the farm land over and through the fence. There aren't too many clues that we're in the 21'st century. It's a timeless view that seemingly might have existed anytime in the last 1000 years.
The "Early morning view" also appeals because that's my favorite part of the day.

These photos are of the last week or so - the same area .
The first is looking down the path from our dining room .The rose 'Sparkler'is the white rose shown being held by two strong stakes after the tornado .On the opposite side is Sharif Asma -a pale pink which often 'balls' for me -but a fabulous scent when open .I also have pink and blue pentstemons beside the path .

On the left are pale pink fuschias ,white alyssum and pink bizzy lizzies .This garden only formed a couple of months ago -hydrangeas two years old grown from cuttings .
