Lovely City of Oxford / ENGLAND in Early Spring!26 Feb '07 11:08 pm
For me it was purely a family visit. But it proved out to be such a lovely experience!
Oxford is such a delightful English city! It marries successfully the Old and the New in the most uplifting way! The lovely city is full of beautiful, ancient traditional buildings , but the ever presence of youth, the Univercity students, adds such a happy, positive energy!! Plus, the Spring time presence , so evident everywhere, it makes you feel so joyful walking along central streets, or more private places, or by the river Thames...
If you wish to learn some more concerning its History, or have a look at its Botanic Garden, just go here: http://www.localhistories.org (: here, press "Local Histories", then "South Midlands", then "Oxfordshire", and finally "Oxford City" ) , and http://www.botanic-garden.ox.ac.uk/Garden/gardenintro.html

Another wonderful tour courtesy of Liza. I loved your photographs of the beautiful architecture of Oxford; and those pictures of the flowering branches set against that gorgeous architectural detail. Again, you have taken me on a fantastic virtual tour of somewhere I might never have gone otherwise. Thank you dear Liza, for letting us share your adventures.

Me too - the pictures are so artistic -especially 13 ,and again ,the snowdrops are so sweet ..I think of 'Oxford 'as being a very English name -it was taken to a town in the South island here by English settlers.
I feel the same way about the university city of Dunedin ,where my daughter studied -it is great seeing all the energy of the students ,and their funny hats as you walk around .

Me too. Thank you so much Liza for thinking of all us as you've been on your family visit. I love seeing the pictures of the skyline architecture - we've got nothing even remotely old and majestic here in New Zealand. Hope you had a great time, too.

Well, I am so fond of your enthusiasm and humor, dearest ones ! My dear-dear Dixie friend, you ARE magestic, but you have a tender heart of a child, therefore, you are ...young and magestic, no??
And last night, my dearest daughter , who is a VERY talented photographer, sent me this photo she took in Oxford last Autumn. I just wanted to share it with you, because I'm sure you will love it.
( P.S. :
Concerning the History link I sent you to in my initial Oxford post, I finally managed to find the right one! If you are still interested , it is really worthed! )

I'd just like to add my own thanks to you Liza, for sharing these gorgeous photos and views of Oxford.
I am ashamed to say that I've never been to Oxford before, even though it is less than two hours' drive along the M25 from where I live! I always enjoyed the views of the city in that classic English detective series, Inspector Morse. I don't know if any of you have seen it or even heard of it, but they used to show the university and other historic buildings quite a lot.
Anyway, thanks again for those lovely pictures, Liza, I particularly like the ones of the blossom - being a bit further west, I suppose Spring is just that little bit more advanced than here!
