This is my final say on where I plant things. Shes in this picture overseeing the pruning of the minis. She looks like a giant next to them. Notice my alligator stone shes garding.
See I shrunk my pic!
This is Sonia...one of my favorite shots! Im partial to the orangy colors.

Great job!
20 Feb '07 4:52 am Congratulations on shrinking your pics. Much better. I love your kitty supervisor and your Sonia. My newest rose berm will have all roses in the orange/peach/gold range.
Your roses all look so healthy. Do you have to spray them a lot?

HELP
20 Feb '07 5:10 am The only one I have to spray is Kordes Perfecta...shes a blackspot magnet! then she infects all the way down the line. I use bayer when I need to. I tried the organics Serenade but didnt seem to do much. The black spot just smirked.
The bareroots I had bought that are on the other side of the house look so much better than the bag a baby roses that I started with in the first bed. I saved a bunch from Wal Mart that were looking sad. I couldnt help myself. They have been doing ok, hopefully they do better this year than last. Im thinking of SP'ing the Kordes...but Im going to give her one last run and see how she does.
Im going out to check everyone after the freeze we got last night. I have the babies in the house in the window to catch what ever sun they can. The roots are under plastic to hold in the moisture. Im going to dome them and let them catch up before I put them in the ground. Im making an austin bed.
Jude the Obscure, Lady in Waiting, New ORleans, Brother Cadfael, Golden Celebration are so far in attendance. Im looking for a purple or mauve blend...I like having a kalidescope of color in the bed. Ive ordered some Hostas to cover toes and bare legs....lol and some lavender that Im putting in one of the HT beds. Any one have any suggestions on the purple color? HELP!

20 Feb '07 10:17 am Wow! Cajunange, you are absolutely buzzing there with your garden ideas! It's inspiring - and I loooove the pic of the garden helper - what a cat!
Is Walmart like a supermarket? That means that you are a compusive rose rescuer! hee hee. Just don't ever bother to rescue the David Austin called Heritage! It's one of his older ones, absolutely beautiful, and oh boy if anything in your garden even thinks of being black-spotty, the Heritage roses will jump for joy! They're super-magnets!
Cheers

20 Feb '07 10:46 am I havent seen any of the Austins down here at all...not even at the nurseries..and thats to bad. I have to order mine. I just ordered Jude the Obscure,Golden Celebration and Brother Cadfael from Hortico. They are grafted on multiflora. Hoping the weather cooperates in the near future I already have babies in my windows in the house waiting on being planted. They are so tiny that I will probably leave them potted for part of the spring till they get some size on them and can withstand the raccoons that like to dig in my rose beds...nasty critters! Cute but mean as all.
I have quite a bit to do this spring. Im still looking for the water fountain that I want. I found one but it was almost 1000.00!! I almost had a heart attack...and walked in the OTHER direction. Spending enough on the Pergola thats going over the front walk...and we have to redo that before I can get the pergola up. Digging up the cement and putting in a brick walk way. Wish me luck, and I know my garden helper will be up the nearest tree spittin at us with the jack hammers...lol

Jackhammers, oh my!
21 Feb '07 3:05 am You have quite a job ahead of you. Good luck with the jackhammers. I personally am a fairly lazy gardener and would probably try to figure out a way to lay my brick on top of the concrete sidewalk. I know, any job worth doing is worth doing well. Go girl!
I had looked at the Bayer sprays at Walmart (a big box store that has taken over almost the entire U.S. and sells everything from groceries to garden supplies and plants to clothing, to car repairs and tires, and on and on and on.). They have a systemic one that promises to protect against insects, disease and to fertilize at the same time. Have you had any experience with that? I usually like to use organics, but don't want to see my roses fall victim to blackspot again this year. Some do pretty well, while others suffer from it. With the heat and humidity here in the summer, it is hard to avoid. I figured you have the same problem or even more so.

21 Feb '07 4:27 am Ive tried the organic sprays, Serenade but the black spot sneered at it. Someone on Garden Web suggested Bayer. Im using a mixture of alfalfa tea, cotton seed, migloranite, and blood and bone meal. Im not sure if you have heard of Witches Brew but thats it. Do yourself a favor mixing it together...dont leave any with a lid on it...IT STINKS takes the little birdies out the air with the smell. The roses love it..and will reward you with huge flushes! Im getting ready to mix up a bunch. I also throw in banana peels in the soil.
I have two groups of rose beds right now, one is bareroots and the other is bag babies that I rescued. The difference in the size is astounding! The bareroots are huge where the bag babies are still pretty small and they are coming up on a year old.
Ive had major problems with blackspot on the bag baby side and none at all on the bareroot side.
Im going to use the Bayer on the bag babies when the weather allows them to keep their leaves. Ive got some naked roses and some that have purple EVERYWHERE!!
Kordes Perfecta is my blackspot magnet as soon as she gets it the rest of that bed follows suit. If I cant get it clean Im SP'ing that rose!
