Link Advertising & Ad Free Option28 Jan '07 11:17 am
We are trialing new blue link ads on the main site. An example is shown below :
They'll be up for at least 30 days. Apologies to our regular readers if you find these a little intrusive. What do you all think about the advertising on the main site? I'm considering making an Ad-Free Mooseys Country Garden for established forum members as I don't think many of you guys get any value out of the ads.
Who would be interested in an Ad-free Mooseyscountrygarden.com? |

The speech bubble ad doesn't appear until you move your mouse pointer over a double blue link. |

words which turn into bubbles28 Jan '07 7:57 pm
I'm not sure I like these dorky bubbles popping out of my own terribly creative words... hee hee! But as a dutiful mother I will do what number one son asks me to do and trial them. Hmmmm. Then again, I could start replacing the keywords with pseudonyms, or asterixes. For example, instead of writing the word 'gardener' I could just write g*****er. Or I could deliberately mis-spell things. Interesting... |

I don't like the 'dorky bubbles' or gaudy blue links much either, but I like them more than the moosey server bill... |

Eggy, thank you for reminding to me this aspect of the site, since I have been experiencing only the... romantic, flowery aspect of it, like Alice in Wonderland... |

Eggy, I have often wondered about that bill...
It seems to me an excellent system - as it is entirely up to the reader to activate the ad, and I would much rather know the future of this wonderful site is secure because the overheads are lower.
I use google's gmail, and they have a similar system of picking up keywords from a mail and listing adlinks in a column on the right. It is entirely my choice to open or ignore them and at most they provide harmless diversion, as it is fascinating to see how international their databank is!
I don't think you need have a two-tier system either - especially as it is bound to mean that the financial relief is less when you have a two-tier system. We can all live with it, and perhaps even combine virtual gardening with virtual mall-cruising |

Change of mind29 Jan '07 8:59 am
My previous post said I would be all for Ad-Free.
I thought Eggy meant ad-free for just the Forum but having read Jacks post I must have misunderstood. Anyway
if this does mean as Jack says that it would mean the financial relief is less with a two tier system then yes
I agree to live with it. The future of the site is far more important. |

Ditto. It's just a fact of life that boards have ads to survive. I just tune them out mentally like I do TV commercials. |
