Thank you so much, my dear Liza for sharing these lovely pics which for me are very impressive and captivating. To be able to view these fascinating changes here is such a treat really as I’m totally ignorant of such climatic effects, having seen and experience none personally. Those icy photos taken by your daughter which you’ve shared in another thread are fantastic too! An eye-opener and educative thread indeed, thanks again! |

Jacqueline,it is really great what you said! I am so happy you shared the pictures in more than the sentimental/artistic ways! Concerning the ...frozen photos of the other thread, are not taken by Alexandra, but they were forwarded to her by a friend. Alexandra , by the way, is a great photographer herself, and Photography has been a part of her College "foundation" studies. |

Although the after effects of frost can be awful, initially it adds another element to the garden which can be quite beautiful for a brief moment.
Your frost photos Liza, were lovely. Take heart the warmer weather will be on you before you know it and life will begin anew. |

My brother-in-law has a kiwifruit orchard in the Bay of Plenty -Eastern North island .It is imperative that no frost be allowed to settle on the developing fruit .The orchardists have alarms in their houses connected to their orchard ,so that when a frost is imminent ,the alarm sounds .A quick phone call ,and the helicopter is on its way .The helicopter hovers over the orchard ,blades whirring and stirring the air so that no frost can settle on the precious fruit .I kid you not !
Now I've been thinking how this idea can be adapted to protect the ordinary back yard garden from frost ,as long as you have a rotary clothes line and a bicycle .You mount the bicycle on the centre pole above the rotary line ,and ingeniously join the chain -pedals -wheels to top of the rotary .While pedalling ,the wheels will cause the clothes line frame to whirl -the faster you pedal ,the more effective it will be .Thus you will aerodynamically save your garden from the damage that frost can cause .
I have with due modesty called this the Dix brisk frost-risk whisk fixer.

Now who's going to be the first one of us to actually try it.
I'd offer but I think I'm washing my hair... for the rest of my life... or something.... |
