Looking the other way30 Dec '06 2:10 pm
From the other direction ,looking towards the arch .On the right ,under the silver artemesia I have the emerging leaves of pale pink dwarf cannas - an unusual colour for cannas .This photo was taken last week ,the morning after a storm -the roses were blown terribly ,and you can see many have gone brown ,and dropped petals over the ground.

Miniature roses have a special charm -the potting mix needs replacing every year .I have about ten pots near my back door.

loooovely foliage4 Jan '07 7:28 pm
Lovely foliage plants, to match your new green avatar, dear Dixie! I do so enjoy seeing your photos - it's so silly, but I get really excited when I see shrubs etc. that I grow and love - like the golden Choisya. A lovely lovely plant.

Me Too4 Jan '07 8:38 pm
Me too ,Moosey -I can't have a garden without a yellow wave flax .The avatar is from your selection -I thought it looked like part of my garden because it has the similar arrangement of foliage .Actually it has only been in recent years that it has dawned on me that foliage is the main foundation of a garden -I used to not see past flowers and wondered why the garden looked skimpy .I think I might just be getting there !

I agree, they are lovely views and your choices of plants go so well together.

I think I'm still working on getting to this stage, Dixie - my feeling right now is that I just want tons and tons of flowers, but I know I'm going to have to realise how important foliage is sometime soon!

You have lovely colour combinations, Dixie. And I applaud the aggies and the silver birches (my favourite trees). A lovely combo.

How I missed all these photos??7 Jan '07 8:40 am
Well, I think I was badly infected...by the Paris visit..Dixie, I just love this last photo with the golden and blue shades -- lovely Agapanthus!...And all the adorable blues found everywhere in your garden are gorgeous! And, yes, it is really so difficult to create mixed borders with grasses and shrubs, together with other blooming plants, like perennials and Roses. I always feel, that the grasses might hide the colourful blooms of other plants... My garden has certain shrubs - apart from Roses- but no grasses at all in the mixed borders... Certain plants, though, like Hemerocallis, Agapanthus, and Crocosmia Lucifer, add to the borders a special look with their foliage...Yes, I think , like Pumkin and Bambi, I am mostly attracted by pure and bold colour combinations in the borders, without any grasses... But, still, how I admire the grasses in other gardens, like Moosey's, or in various garden magazines!...
