Those homeless animals that are loved in modern Athens.3 Dec '06 3:43 am
Last night I received this link from my brother Alexander in Athens. He is an animal lover of course, but I never discussed with him, when we met there last week, how disappointed I was again in Athens , meeting not well-treated or homeless animals.. The main discussions had been around family members ..And he also has no idea I am involved in this Forum. Even more so, that in my article about Athens in the Garden Tours section, I specifically refer to homeless animals in modern Athens...So, this new link seems to be a nice surprise , a very welcomed, soothing present for me! And I'll explain why...
Because this link is created by serious animal loving people of modern Athens! Even the Ministry of Internal Affairs is involved, since the Town Hall and its Public Services are involved as well..
By opening the link, you will find 29 photos of adorable animals. Beside each photo, there is a funny or serious notice, concerning what you see. I will translate for you some of the most interesting among them. If you have simoultaneously opened the Greek link and the Forum link, it will be easy for you to understand the translation:
Photo no 1 : " Ladies and Gentlemen, we present you here the strays of Athens! We exist! Please , don't forget us! Don't pass by without noticing us, like we do not exist!"
Photo no 2 : " A homeless human, a homeless animal.."
Photo no 4 : " We should stick together.."
Photo no 9 : " Loving hugs between the " enemies"..."
Photo no 12 : " He, who is already wet, does not afraid of the rain.."
Photo no 13 : " I hope I will survive this coming winter.."
Photo no 14 : " Dogs are immense happines for the children. But the decision of adopting one should be very serious and not impulsive"
Photo no 15 : " I am not one of these tourists! I am permanent inhabitant of this city!"
Photo no 16 : " I am castrated, vaccinated and I have my own ID! Which means, I have more chances to be ...respected and survive.."
Photo no 19 : " Wow! I am somebody of great importance!"
Photo no 24 : " I have personally protested long before The Athens Olympic Games concerning the protection of my homeless friends. If not, I would had been at their place right now..."
Photo no 25 : " Yes! I am proud to be a dog!"
Photo no 26 : " Please, I need your help!"
Photo no 27 : " Well, not too bad the dog life...I can read news papers for free! But, still, impossible to read them all...I think I'll take a nap! It is lovely and warm here.."
Photo no 29 : " Four-leg stories in the streets: For all those who are interested in acquiring a new friend:
a) Municipality of Athens ( details are given).
b) Refuge of Abandoned Animals in Glyfada (: The suburb where my son lives! details are given. And don't forget to also see the link that is mentioned here, kazshelter.org! You will love it!)
c) Greek Animal-Lovers Society ( : A very old Organization. Before I got married I was a member. But I abandoned very quickly.. I am sure, that by now their work there has really evolved . I hope..) "
And now, here is this link, that made me proud and soothed my recent disappointment...

Unfortunately I wasn't able to look at your first link about the strays, Liza - it says I need to install a program and I dare not without knowing more about it - sorry!
But I did look at the Kaz Shelter one and loved every one of those little doggies and kitties! |

I also can't download anything without hubby's ok as we've had computer problems in the past, but it gives me great hope to know that there are still genuine animal lovers out there.
It's amazing the number of folks who run shelters and adoption programmes and devote so much of their time to rehoming animals. |

I am really sorry for both (regarding the download problem), but you got my spirit and you tasted my feelings through the animal-shelter website, and THAT is what really matters ! Thank you! |
