Dixie, what a great mosaic!! It must have taken quite a while to collect the required number of similarly-coloured stones for the different parts of it! I think it shows a lot of love and caring in your family!!

Isn't it amazing... you can buy all the sculptures and builders and bricklayers you like, but nothing will ever be as precious as something you or yours have made with loving hands
You are rich Dixie

Wow!!9 Mar '08 5:33 pm
Wow! What a wonderful place in which to live, Dixie!! Cablecars to get to the houses!! How do they get water up there?? And what a wonderful sign once you get there! Your family is very lucky, but I can't help wondering about the "down" side of living in such an inaccessible place - what about fire protection, ambulances, etc.? But on balance, it's a place I think I'd be very happy to live in!
As for my dreams of intentional communities, it's only about three weeks until I get to visit the valley in the Interior where I hope to settle. My contact person in the village phoned me this morning to touch bases with me. He seemed as eager for the meeting as I am, so I think it should be a good visit. I'll take pictures and post them when I return.
Cheers!

How interesting!10 Mar '08 4:04 am
Cable cars, treks through the brush and sea kayaking? Elementary! I'm guessing they're near the coast but up in a relatively undeveloped area that is also steep. Sounds like an adventurous bunch to me.
[Looking forward to seeing more photos from your trip too Gordon.]

Okay, just discovered that there are three more pages to this thread! Now I'm caught up. What a wonderful, wonderful place to live. I agree with Pumpkin the tile inlays and brickwork will be something your little granddaughter can point to with pride as her and her grandmom's creation. Nice. I'm so glad you got the digital camera, Dixie, and thanks for bringing us along.
