Mystery Plants21 Mar '07 4:20 pm
Hi, all!
The excitement of spring is wonderful! The frogs are awake once more and croaking loudly day and night; the ducks and geese are on the move once more, although the massive flocks high in the sky won't be passing here for a while yet. I don't know how they can travel at night through clouds and city lights without bumping into each other! Stellar jays are still around but will soon be heading deeper into the bush to lay eggs and to raise their fledglings. And gardeners like me are slaving away amid the bare bones of roses and skeletons of last years' teasels.
My mystery plants are growing apace but it's still too soon to post their pictures. Their leaves need to be much larger for any hope of identification!
I love spring with the smell of grass fires and children's voices as they celebrate Spring Break from school. My neighbour's grandchildren are visiting, so each morning I am awakened by the sound of soccer balls thumping outside my bedroom and squeals of laughter as the little ones (all under 10 years of age) play on the street. Between the children and the woodpeckers and the remaining jays, it's getting hard to sleep in around here!
I find it interesting to hear about the advance of spring from south to north: my first and earliest tulips are just in bloom, while Dixie's (I think it was) in the States are already well on their way. Where I used to live 500 miles further north, the ground is still covered with snow!
I'm waiting impatiently for the leaves to open just a bit more so I can post some more pictures of my beloved river!
Cheers, all!
