Such a heartwarming story of true love in action! You're truly a loving and caring person, dear Jack and your mum's beaming smile as she poses as 'Mothertjie herself' (in your other post) attest to your wonderful disposition! Thanks for sharing this very personal side of you and for all those lovely garden pics and gorgeous roses.

Thank you all28 Oct '06 9:34 pm
Thank you to everyone for the valued comments. All I can say is I was priviliged to have known such a love, and priviliged to have been able to pay such a tribute to it. But the biggest tribute of all one can pay is to continue to live passionately and fully; when I am half-hearted, faint-hearted or sore-hearted I still see Francois lift a quizzical eyebrow at me and grin ... and then I get on with it!
After a huge (and very successful) function with my Interacters yesterday (= High School age 'Rotarians'), I can indulge in a bit of time-out. Here are the last of the photographs I took in the Rondel Garden last week. This afternoon (Saturday) I will be able to spend time there for the first time in a week...

14 An exuberant mass seen through the fence.JPG
The garden was not designed to be looked at through the fence but this shot works! Mutabilis centre back, Genl Gallieni to its right. Rugosas and Hydrangya serrata underplanted with Tradescantia virginiana and the self-sown spurge (Euphorbia polychroma)

Your roses are inspiring, as is your sentence about continuing to live passionately and fully. Hmm... I thought lots about your old fashioned roses and your friend Francois yesterday, while weeding... dear Jack, thank you for sharing.
Though thinking profound thoughts while weeding seemed - well - rather odd, and slightly irreverant. But such is life, I guess! Spring promises, and the beauty of old fashioned roses...

More beautiful pictures.
Want to come and do my garden for me? *sigh*
I have a Mutablis but it's awfully solitary where it is. Yours looks so lovely.

I'm posting more photos in between other work - I tried to give the pics self-explanatory titles!
(Sorry - the pedantic English teacher is never far from the surface: ought is spelt with an 'o'!)

that's the second posting I've done this week where I feel my pics are too dark. Going to have to watch that - but I'm not redoing ALL of them!

Many more stunning beauties! They're exquisite, Jack and thanks for sharing! In fact, I favour those shots with darkened background, as it enhances the beautiful form and colours of the lovely roses.

I have forgotten the name of the blue blue South African flowers in your photo -(sorry Jack -you did tell me ) they are now flowering for me under 'Uetersen' -with a border of varigated lamium ---a similar and successful colour combination under the gingko tree ,just as one enters my garden .Inspired me to go and take a photo .
